HE WILL SURVIVE!
What characteristics are essential for survival?
You will be working on the creation of a script documenting Brian’s survival characteristics. You will choose one or more passage(s) from the novel to form the basis of your scripts.
STORY TO SCRIPT LESSON
Learning Intention:
Learning Intention:
- Select the relevant descriptive details from the novel to capture the action and convey the experiences and events of Brian that show his survival characteristics.(W.7.3.D)
- Choose precise words and phrases to create a script that conveys Brian's survival experiences. (W.7.3.D)
- Craft a clearly organised script using appropriate features from relevant passages of the novel (W.7.4)
- Use a technology tool to produce, publish and share writing (W.7.6)
- Conduct and use peer reviews to develop and strengthen the script as needed, by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed (W.7.5)
Getting Started!
- Let's have a look back at the Google Doc created collaboratively last lesson where we looked at passages from the novel, identified the survival characteristics shown by Brian, and explained how the passage shows these characteristics. Spend a quiet minute reading over and and reviewing our notes about Brian's survival characteristics, and how they are shown in the sections of the novel.
- Have a look back at Part 1: Necessities of Living Organisms in the Science lesson and think about the questions in terms of the characteristics that Brian shows. Discuss your ideas and thoughts.
- Now refer back to the research you conducted in Part 3: Research Project of the Science lesson. If you apply your thinking about the structural and behavioural adaptations that help animals to survive in their biomes, do you think Brian could survive in his?
Note down any more ideas, suggestions, attributes or questions that you have on THIS DOCUMENT.
Stories to Scripts
Before you write your own script, let's make sure we understand what a script is and what the feature of it are.
In pairs, analyse Story to Script Example 2. Use the following questions to create a list of the FEATURES OF A SCRIPT
i. How is the first sentence of the story shown and elaborated in the script?
ii. How is the second sentence of the story shown and elaborated in the script?
iii. How is the third sentence of the story shown and elaborated in the script?
iv. What information in the script helps the actors playing the characters?
v. What are other things to consider when writing a script?

Your scripts will be peer reviewed using the Peer Review Form. Use the feedback from this to make final edits and revisions to your script before you submit a final draft for teacher assessment.
How can humans prolong our survival?
We now understand what life needs in order to survive and we have explored
how humans can use their skills and attributes to survive.
Next, you will learn about how humans can prolong their survival by controlling disease.
